It was “the best Pipe event of the last 15 years..” The most experienced bodyboarders in the world, pulled in some of the most challenging waves worldwide. Jeff Hubbard, Mike Stewart, Dave Winchester and Sam Bennett made it through the finals.Pipe and Backdoor were firing awesome deep barrels. Scores went crazy. Mike had a hard time trying to come out of a dangerous tube. Hubb wanted revenge from the last IBA contest. He opened the show with “ridiculous” ARS! Bennett and Stewart just had to come up with an answer. Everyone was super stoked and not willing to give up. Despite Sam’s score was a 8.25 and then a 8, Jeff Hubbard quickly vasished all hopes with an insane combo. Hubby was crowned Pipe Master and currently leader of the 2012 IBA World Tour rankings. Mike Stewart finished 2nd and proved that he is still The Legend. It could have been his 12th…

“It was a freezing afternoon on March 10, 2011. After two days of travel, photographer Jeff Flindt and surfers Nat Young, Sam Hammer and Dane Zaun had logged a measly two hours of water time. Huddled around their rental car, de-suiting for the last time, the crew got that feeling you always get at the end of a trip; that little voice inside you that asks: Will I ever come back? It spoke to them in unison. And their answer was a resounding “No.”

PLC is the 2011 IBA Men’s World Tour champion! He’ s defeated Jared Houston in the quarterfinals at the 2011 NMD-Pride-Stealth Fronton Pro, being the first Frenchman to win a world title. Australian Jason Finlay has won the finals defeating Mitch Rawlins in heavy barreling surf! Congrats! Pipe comes next!

In search of the perfect wave…

One essential thing to continue to develop and improve your surfing is to surf a wide variety of surf spots. Each breaks differently and will help you become a better surfer by gaining experience with surfing different types of waves. If you normally surf steep beach breaks, look for a reef break. Or vice versa. Unfortunately a lot of folks are too intimidated to even search out new spots. So next time, when swell arrives grab your board and search around! …You’ ll never know, unless you get out there!

It seems that it’s a fact. Forecast wizards predict flat and glassy days coming on. So, eventually, when next swell arrives, e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e. will grap his boogie-stick-sup-kite-wind-kayak or piece of wood so as to get out there and share some fun. Foregone conlusion!

Scenario No1: In this case your local break’ s gonna be so crowded, you wished you weren’t there: “Nah..not my fav” you might say, thinking about some possible sneaky attitude, drop-ins, kooks, your future-dinged board or even a few stitches (worst case). Scenario No 2: Break doesn’t work proper, although you “knew” it would be pumping: Stokeness is gone… Unless, you think possitive! Which means: Next time you go to the beach, have in mind:

Crowd is out there for the same reason just like you! Being dropped-in is a chance to expierience people’s attitude and wave riding can become more of a challenge! And if waves are small and mushy for our vehicles, it is a nice chance for our skills (plus ankle busters are 90% less crowded).
Think possitive, enjoy the surf under any conditions and respect fellow watermen and the beach!

Benjamin Franklin is quoted to have said: “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”.

BodyboardinGreece strongly recommends dawn patrol surf! So, avoid alcohol, drugs, caffeine, and naysayers the preceding night, wax and load your boogie in the car the night before, call a friend and let him-her know your plan, calculate the amount of time you need to get ready, drive, shower, surf and get to work (if you aren’t fired yet!)- in that case, don’ forget your work shoes… and remember: Even if the surf report isn’t the best, it may be inaccurate, weather conditions may change, and God may bless you with a miracle where you will be pleasantly surprised when you arrive in the morning!
