5 Years BodyboardinGreece!

It all started back in May 5th 2007… We actually knew we were just a few spongers but we didn’t know exactly how many. What we did know was the fact that  there were some folks out there sharing the same stokeness as we did, at a scene that was overruled by stand up stickers. It’s also a fact that most Greeks all these years consider bodyboarding as a solution for those who can’t or don’t bother to stand up! Well, you never know untill you go!

So, it just seemed that the right moment had come for the first Greek  bodyboarding site where local bodyboarders would get in touch and share their passion. After 5 years, lots of searching, plently of fun, new friends (and also haters!), good and bad times, let me tell you mates, it totally worth it! Long living BodyboardinGreece!

Many thanks to all our friends for their support and the good times! Stay stoked mates!

Farewell David Lilienfeld…! R.I.P.

Saturday was a very sad day as the body boarding world paid it’s respect to David Lilienfeld a Springbok body boarder from Cape Town who was killed by a 4-5 metre Great white while body boarding with his brother and another mate at a spot called “Caves”. He had a huge impact on many peoples lives and will never be forgotten!

Stop No 2

Mitch Rawlins, photo by Sacha “Spex” Specker

Mitch Rawlins has conquered the final heat of the IBA Box Pro 2012, defeating South African Mark McCarthy and he was crowned the Champ! The Box provided some powerful 6-8 foot rough waves over the shallow reef of Margaret River WA where Rawlins combined some high technic tube rides with flying aerial maneuvers. Mark McCarthy posted the highest heat score of the whole event. This result has rocketed him, together with Rawlins, into the 3rd place on the IBA Grand Slam Series (GSS) rankings.
This is Rawlins’s second professional trophy, since 2005, in Maui, but much more important… As Mitchell said: “This means a lot more… The one in Maui seemed to come pretty easy and I was a lot younger, and I took it for granted. There are so many good guys now, you can’t make too many mistakes, if any!” Well done Mitchell!

PS: Jones Russell, from Australia, won the Freedom Fins “GO BIG” award in round four for landing a huge invert into the flats.

Next stop is the notorious El Gringo in ARICA, Chile from May 18-27…
